Michael Fertik discusses his novel, Hip Set, with metro Detroit’s cultural representative from Israel, Yiftah Leket.
Oscar Orleans is a Congolese refugee in Israel. He’s also the only Hebrew-speaking liaison to the African refugee community living in Tel Aviv. When his old friend Inspector Kobi Sambinsky calls him early on Shabbat morning, he knows something is wrong. A young Sudanese immigrant has been found murdered. Together, Sambinsky and Orleans must venture into the heart of Tel Aviv’s Sudanese underground to solve this murder; what they discover is a mystery that has been dormant for years.

Michael Fertik is a published fiction author, poet, film writer, and playwright. His poetry, short fiction, and novellas have recently appeared in Minor Lits, december, The Write Launch, Eclectica, Litror, Cease, and others. His writing has won poetry, fiction, and film prizes and includes a New York Times bestseller. Fertik lives in Palo Alto, CA.
