Dan Peres, As Needed for Pain: A Memoir of Addiction
Presented in Partnership with the 2020 Ann Arbor Jewish Book Festival
Dan Peres discusses his book, As Needed for Pain: A Memoir of Addiction, with marketing CEO Andrew Essex.
Dan Peres’s career as an editor of W Magazine and Details is well known, but little is known about his private life as a high-functioning drug addict. In this memoir, Peres lays bare, for the first time, the extent of his drug use. Sometimes humorous and often gripping, this is a coming-of-age tale filled with unforgettable characters and breath-taking brushes with disaster. But the heart of this book is his journey from outsider to insecure insider, what took him there, and how he found his way back from a killing addiction.
